TERMITE FACT:

Termites cause more than $5 billion in damages each year.

TERMITE MYTH:

Only structures made of wood frame are susceptible to a termite infestation.

TERMITE FACT:

A termite swarm inside your home is a strong indication of an active termite infestation inside your home.

TERMITE MYTH:

Termite treatments are dangerous, intrusive, and very expensive.

TERMITE SWARM

Each Spring in New York & New Jersey, termites begin to swarm. In essence, this is their mating season. Winged termites, called alates, emerge in large numbers looking for a mate and a suitable habitat to start a new colony of their own. These swarmers indicate the presence of a mature termite colony nearby.

Conventional Liquid Soil Treatments

Because subterranean termites make their colonies in the ground, liquid soil applications seek to create a barrier around the foundation of a structure where termite intrusion is possible or likely. Soil treatments may be done as a stand alone treatment or as a partial application in combination with a termite baiting program.

Conventional applications often provide the quickest means of impacting an active termite infestation.

Ongoing Termite Protection

Because termites can gain entry to a structure through an opening as small as 1/64 of an inch, the risk of intrusion is always there. As an SPC customer, we'll be an extra set of highly trained eyes, looking for signs of infestation, re-infestation, presence, and conducive conditions.

In the event termite activity is found, SPC will treat as necessary at no additional cost to you.

Termite Bait & Monitoring

Termite monitoring systems not only provide a less intrusive, often less expensive treatment alternative to conventional liquid soil treatments, they also indicate the actual presence of termites in an environment over time.

Whether the concentration of termites around your property is high or low, knowing helps you assess the necessity and value of your protection plan and make informed decisions about which plan is right for you.

Localized Spot Treatments

Although an ongoing protection plan is typically advisable for most termite infestations, localized spot treatments may also be an option under certain circumstances.

An SPC professional will assess your situation, outline your treatment options, and help set up a treatment program that meets your needs.

TERMITE QUESTIONS

What you should know.

Are There Different Kinds of Termites?

Yes, there are. However, in New York and New Jersey, the only structural threat comes from one particular type called the Eastern Subterranean Termite. Because these termites make their colonies predominantly in the ground, most treatment measures also take place in the ground.

Are All Homes in New York Susceptible To Termites?

Well, "all" is certainly pretty broad. That said, it is reasonable to say that "almost all" homes in New York and New Jersey have some level of vulnerability to a termite infestation. Just how vulnerable your home may be is dependent upon many factors, including the environmental conditions around your home, the termite pressure in the vicinity, the construction and constitution of your home, the amount, age, and moisture content of the wood within your home, and a series of other potentially contributing factors.

Do I Need to Vacate During a Termite Treatment?

No. Treatments for eastern subterranean termites will not require you to leave the home. In fact, in the absence of an active termite infestation, the treatment is likely to take place exclusively on the exterior. Any treatment done from the inside would be safely applied inside wall voids, wood cavities, or beneath the slab.

Can Baits Alone Resolve an Active Termite Infestation?

Yes, it is possible..but may not necessarily be recommended. By design, termite baits work comparatively slowly, relying upon the ingestion and/or transfer of the active ingredient. So while baits can and do eliminate termites, heavy infestations might warrant baits in combination with a directed liquid soil treatment to expedite the remediation process.
